A 2-page letter from "Effie" to John, July 14 (1864), Philadelphia, 7.25" x 4.5", Fine. In part: "We have had quite a time about the rebels coming North, but I believe they have driven them back. I never felt afraid of them getting this far, they have done some mistcheif [sic] I believe to the railroads and burnt some property, and carried off something to eat and I guess that is about all they have done. I think Lee was trying to draw Grant from before Petersburg, but I think Grant is too sharp for him...."
