Exceedingly rare stereoview of State Street in Albany, NY, adorned in mourning bunting and flags for President Lincoln's funeral on April 26, 1865. President Lincoln's body was placed on the the funeral train in New York City in the late afternoon on April 25th, and arrived in Albany shortly before midnight. The coffin was placed in the state capitol rotunda upon arrival in Albany. The doors to the capitol were opened at 1:15 AM on the 26th for public viewing. It is said upwards to 60 mourners filed past the coffin every minute. There is a similar view of State Street in "Twenty Days", the definitive source for Lincoln assassination and mourning images, but this is the first example we have seen ever appearing at auction. The piece has some light wear to the mount edge, and a quote from"Twenty Days" affixed to the verso, along with a few other notations. The albumen images have fine contrast and detail. A great opportunity for the collector of Lincoln images.
