Letter from a Civil War Hospital, Hampton, VA, Choice Very Fine. Manuscript Letter Signed, James A. Seeley, March 23, (no year), on fine-laid paper, with embossed "P. & P." railroad seal in upper left corner, 9.75" x 7.75," doublesided. Seeley writes to a friend, Alvin Sayles of Co. C, 52nd Regmt. Pennsylvania Vols., in South Carolina. Seeley is the ward master of ward 13 of the hospital, and relates some of the improvements and changes on the grounds, in part: "I believe the flag staff and red flag was up before you left; they have got a row of trees set out on each side of every walk. They have a new barn, waggon shed, poultry yard &c fixed up very convenient; there is also a coal and wood yard. Two new store houses. A carpenter shop, a nigger shanty and other ornamental buildings to numerous to mention..." Accompanied by original transmittal envelope, with two circular(one "Target") cancellation stamps. Toned letter with normal folds; cover with heavy toning and wear.
