SCOTT, Winfield (1786-1866). Brigadier General in the War of 1812, the Black Hawk War, the Mexican-American War, the Second Seminole War, and, briefly, the American Civil War. Congress would later present him a Gold Medal; Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Army (1841 through 1861); unsuccessful Presidential Candidate of the Whig Party in 1852. Document Signed, "Winfield Scott", October 12, 1846, "Commutation of Money" due, VG. Superb quality, signed payroll statement receipt, which measures 8" x 3.25" in fresh, bright and clean condition with vivid brown manuscript portions and crisp, 1.75" long signature.
