A complete and authentic issue of the New York Weekly Herald, May 30, 1946, 8pp., VG. the issue displays two large graphics illustrating the victories of May 8th and 9th, 1846. The first, The American Fortifications on the Rio Grande, the second, The Fields of Palo Alto and Resaca de La Palma. The balance of the front page is taken with reports from the field which carryover to the interior pages. The Battle of Palo Alto was the first major battle of the Mexican–American War and was fought on May 8, 1846, on disputed ground five miles (8 km) from the modern-day city of Brownsville, Texas. This battle was followed May 9th with Zachary Taylor persueing the retreating mexican army.
