NIMITZ Chester William (1885-1966) was a fleet admiral of the United States Navy. He played a major role in the naval history of World War II as Commander in Chief, United States Pacific Fleet (CinCPac), for U.S. naval forces and Commander in Chief, Pacific Ocean Areas (CinCPOA), for U.S. and Allied air, land, and sea forces during World War II. MACARTHUR, Douglas (1880-1964) was an American five-star general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army. He was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II. An important period photograph identified in negative, “The Japanese Surrender, U.S.S. Missouri, Tokyo Bay, 2 September 1945. The photograph is signed with inscription in the lower margin, “To Mr. Bill Clark of Indianopis with best wishes, C.W. Nimitz, Fleet Admiral.” Also, it is signed in the “treaty area” of the photo “C.W. Nimitz, U.S. Represetitive.” Additionally, there is a clipped signature cut into the framing mat, “Douglas MacArthur,” some ink breaks.
