Beautifully executed badge issued for Roosevelt's return from his African Safari on June 18,1910. After TR left the White House in 1909 he went on a well documented safari in Africa, in which he gathered many animal specimens (Hunted and shot). Many were sent back to the United States for display in museums, several in the famed New York Museum of Natural History. On the back of the medal it reads "Roosevelt Reception June 18, 1910". The piece measures 2 1/2" tall, and is in excellent condition. There was a celluloid button issued for this event, which sells in the $2,000.00+ price range. It is interesting to note that the celluloid button shows up more frequently than this badge.
