The majority of collectors are familiar with the rare "Dewey Defeats Truman" Chicago Tribune newspaper, which sells in the $1,500.00+ price range. But this Amarillo Times (Texas) Tuesday, November 2, 1948 election day newspaper is the first example we have encountered. The paper has twenty four pages, and is in fine condition having just some light typical toning to the paper. The front page has a large caption "GOP ALL SET FOR VICTORY" in large block letters. Below Deweys image it reads "Odds on favorite to win...". Under Trumans image it reads "Confident in face of defeat...". On page twenty two there is more commentary, which reads, in part "Dewey Victory Held Certain"...."Dewey will bring a new Republican controlled House into power with him, and a Republican senate too....". The Amarillo Times seemed quite confident in a Republican victory. We are placing a conservative opening bid on this piece of Presidential history, and we will see how the bidding "unfolds".
