Bloodstained Broadside: "THE PRISONER'S REQUEST/BEAUREGARD'S REPLY," and Postcard of Libby Prison, Richmond, VA, Lot of 2, Very Fine. 8" x 10" uncolored printed broadside has the lyrics of a song composed by "F.H.B., Com. A, 29th Reg't. Ind. Vol." ("The Prisoner's Request") on the left side of the sheet, and the lyrics to the "response" on the right. This bloodstained sheet, which was carried by a Union soldier from Ohio, is mottled and spattered along three sides. The print lyrics plaintively reflect the sentiments of imprisoned Union soldiers held at Libby Prison. Toned sheet with normal folds. The postcard of the prison is a color lithograph image of the brick structure, in clean, crisp condition. A poignant set of mementos from the war between the states. (2 items)
