A complete and authentic issue of the Connecticut Gazette, New London, April 11, 1792, 4pp., loose at spine, paper limp, else VG. From an interior page “Boston March 30, Extract of a Letter from Aux Cayes dated Feb 11.” Aux Cayes is the former name of Les Cayes, a town and seaport in southwestern Haiti. In part, “The 21st of January ... the garrison was attacked by 13,000 mulattoes & negroes ... at four o’clock .. the fort and town were surrounded so that no person could get in or out ... continued to fight till half past five o’clock the next morning, only at times retreating to burn their dead ... the garrison had 1150 men only to support ... 400 of which were negroes that are faithful to their owners. ...”
