S. Society…earnestly invite your attendance at two State conventions…these conventions will be of great importance in their bearing upon the anti-slavery enterprise…throughout the country…the subjects which will…be discussed are of immense practical importance at the present crisis, viz; the duty of anti-slavery voters to withhold their support from pro-slavery candidates at the coming state and Presidential elections…we ask not only you attend…but to urge the attendance of many professed abolitionists to sacrifice their principles to party…[and] all that can be done by way of remonstration…warning and rebuke…[be made to]…any individual who professes attachment to the cause of the slave…we hope to see the Abolitionists…coming up to these conventions by hundreds…Mess. Garrison and Rogers will be present…Respectfully yours for the Slave, J. A. Collins, H. G. Chapman, Oliver Johnson, Committee [members] of Arrangement." Addressed to "Augustus Moulton & Co., Beverly, Mass." and cancelled with a circular "Boston, Sept. 20" postal mark.
