From the front page, “Capture of a Slaver.” In part, “The slave prize ship Nightingale arrived at New York on Saturday ... The Nightingale was captured April 23 off Kabenda by the US sloop of war Saratoga, having onboard nine hundred and fifty Negroes. She was taken to Monrovia where the cargo was put on shore, consisting of two hundred and seventy men, ninety seven women three hundred and forty boys, and ninety two girls, making a total of eight hundred and and one; one hundred and sixty having died in passage ....”
