Printed Anti-Slavery Booklet being the "Twelfth Annual Report of the ROCHESTER Ladies Anti-Slavery Society", Rochester, New York, original paper wrappers, small 12mo., 20pp., published by A. Strong & Co., Rochester, 1863. The Rochester Ladies Anti-Slavery Society was founded and headed by several of that city's leading anti-slavery families. It was here that Frederick Douglass set up his new home, headquarters and North Star newspaper, after parting ways with Garrison and the Boston abolitionists. This report carries a first-hand description of the condition of the Contrabands at Alexandria Virginia as reported by Julia Wilbur, who traveled there for the Society. These reports are rich with detailed information on the progress of the War and Reconstruction, slaves, freedmen and contrabands; plus their financial reports, with information on the sale of Frederick Douglass's newspaper. Near fine.
