Printed Anti-Slavery Booklet being the "Seventeenth Annual Report of the ROCHESTER Ladies Anti-Slavery Society", Rochester, New York, original paper wrappers, small 12mo., 28pp., published by Wm. S. Falls, Rochester, 1868. The Rochester Ladies Anti-Slavery Society was founded and headed by several of that city's leading anti-slavery families. It was here that Frederick Douglass set up his new home, headquarters and North Star newspaper, after parting ways with Garrison and the Boston abolitionists. This report carries a first-hand description of the condition of the Freemen at Alexandria Virginia and Washington, D. C. as reported by Julia Wilbur, who operated there for the Society. These reports are rich with detailed information on the progress of the Freemen in the early Reconstruction era; plus an enumeration of both financial and tangible donations and the early progress of Howard University "which is at present a school preparatory to something higher, has about 80 pupils." VG with small tear effecting the front wrapper, else VG.
