Outrages in South Carolina” covers the outrages at Newberry SC. In small part,”... the Ku-Klux numbering about 100 men all mounted and disguised wearing grotesque masks upon their faces and horns on their heads ... They first visted the house of Simeon Young, Chairman of the County Board, a negro man ... threw a lighted turpentine ball, that they might see to shoot ... Mrs. Young was wounded ... The Ku-Klux ... whipped two old men nearly to death ... the Ku-Klux movement has now gotten beyond of respectable and influential men ...”
