64 pp., 5-1/2” 8-1/2”, separate cover, VG. These annual reports are often content dry . But not this issue. It is loaded. Under the Legal Defence Chapter 19 cases are reviewd including The Scootsboro Cases. Chapter III notes the issue of Voting in the Southern States. Yet most appaling is Chapter IV, Lynching. Here, the report provides key details of the 10 lynchings in 1931 (2 were white men). An example of the brutality ... “Because it was alleged that he shot and killed a police chief, Henry Woods was murdered by a mob of farmers ... they has fired 150 shots into his body, carried it to the scene of the murder and burned it.” It is also fascinating to note the racial mix of the NAACP leadership in 1932. The 1933 Officers were: President and Chairman J.E. Springarn (white), Treasurer Mary White Ovington (white), Vice President Arthur Capper (white), Vice President Bishop John Gregg (black), Vice President John Haynes Holmes (white), Vice President James Weldon Johnson (black), Vice President Arthur Barnette Spingarn (white), and Vice President Oswald Garrison Villard (white).
