Small broadside, 4-3/4 x 7”, Washington. Aug. 16, 1859. Small tear in lower left corner, slightly worn along left edge. Very good. The orders of Secretary of War John B. Floyd outlining how the pursuit and treatment of hostile Indians are to be administered in light of potential conflicts with other military departments. The orders allow any army unit to pursue a hostile force into another department. However, if the goal is to arrest an individual from a friendly tribe who has fled, the job is to be passed to the neighboring department. The orders also stipulate that any trooper who loses his Colt revolver will be charged $40.
