Manuscript Document Signed, "R.A. Alston A.A.G." 1p. 4"x4", pencil, and reads "The order of March will be as follows, Morgans Regt will be on advance, Hunts Regt next & the Texas Squadron in the rear. Lieut. J.A. Smith Commd & Co A is appointed officer of the day. He will ride in front of the command as much as possible in order that he may inspect the permits of such men as are sent forward...." Mounting residue, else VG. Rare. This order dates between May 1, 1862 when Alston joined Morgan's command & August 15, 1862 Robert A. Alston (1832-1879) served in the 9th Tennessee Cavalry, was later a partner in the Atlanta Daily Herald, member of Georgia state house of representatives, 1878-79; and was killed in a gun fight in the Georgia State Capitol building.
