Manuscript Letter Signed, by Major Ruel M Johnson (1843-1901), 100th Indiana Infantry, who was later promoted to Colonel and was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravely exposing himself to enemy fire and encouragining and cheering on his men at Chattanooga, on November 25, 1863, this letter is 1p. folio, written on December 31, 1864, from Savannah, Georgia, addressed to Ezra French, it reads: “I have the honor to enclose herewith ‘Quarterly Return of Deceased Soldiers’ of the 100th Regiment Ind. INf. Vols, for the quarter ending the 31st day of Dec. 1864” The deceased soldier’s list is not included. VG. The 100th Indiana took part in the March to the Sea as well as the Seige of Savannah, which ended 10 days prior to this letter.
