Confederate imprint “INSTRUCTION FOR HEAVY ARTILLERY; PREPARED BY A BOARD OF OFFICERS, FOR THE USE OF THE ARMY OF THE UNITED STATES.” Richmond, Va., West & Johnston, 1862, 272pp. Pressedboard cover, fine interior. Owner signed “John R. Giles”, then in different period hand, “used by him at Thunderbolt near Savannah Ga.” Giles would die of disease at Thunderbolt, 1863. Then, a later book plate, “Clayton Giles, Wilmington, NC.”
