A good war-date Southern citizen's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written, in period ink, by Elbert S. Cassady (former private 9th Georgia), Lafayette, Ga., Apr. 26, 1863 to his cousin Nannie E. Sawyers, in part: "…there is two companies of soldiers stationed in Lafayette…one company of cavalry and one of infantry. They have caught seventy five deserters since they arrived…the bushwhackers has ceased for the present. The appearance of soldiers in Walker cooled them down…Rus…was still improving…he would start to his regiment the first of May. The regiment is at Suffolk Va under Longstreet…your cousin until death E. S. Cassady...". The original dual stamped transmittal cover is included. Near fine.
