Lot of four Southern letters being the balance of the Elbert S. Cassady archive. Included is one war-date letter from January 21, 1863 recalling a large excursion Elbert took to Pigeon Mountain. Georgia [this is where Leondias Polk would be killed the following year] with thirty five women, and few men, because "boys is scearce here." Going on he gives a detailed description of a young seventeen year old whom he met on the trip. He fears soon that he might end up back in the army "in deadly conflict with a powerful enemy." He then concludes the letter by stating that he most likely will not marry until the war ends. Also included are three pre-war letters from the late1850's all with good local hometown content with one letter being penned by his cousin Nannie. Overall VG.
