C., Oct. 25, 1862, in part: "…there has been a battle here and I was in it. There was a great many killed and wounded. There was a number of secesh killed but I don't know how many. There was one of our own that stood in front of me shot in the breast and fell. There was a man on one side of me shot in the leg…there was 7 or 8 fell within a rod of me.
