War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. James B. Sterling, Co. E, 7th Conn. Vols., [MWIA Olustee, Florida, 2/20/64], Beaufort, S. C., Dec. 9, 1862, in part: "…there has not been any active movements…since the battle of Pocotaligo…I don't believe Gen. Hunter will do anything of any account for he will devote his time to the Nigers. He has not got any more fighting courage than a general aught to…James B. Sterling…". The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Near fine.
