It is 3 or 4 miles farther up the Potomac…we have got pretty well initiated into carrying those devilish old knapsacks. They don't seem so heavy as they did when we left Boxford. We are brigaded…in Brig. Gen. [Robert] Cowdin's brigade in Maj. Gen. Abercrombie's Div…we have got a Brig. Gen. that takes them down a peg. He is the one…that took a musket and fought at the head of his Regt [2nd Mass. Vols.] when his horse was shot from under him…stood under arms expecting an attack…your aff. Bro. M. M. Ordway…".
