Autograph Letter Signed, 1p. quarto, St. Louis, June 27, 1864, with cover addressed to Lt. Thomas H.B. Randolph, at Johnson’s Island, it reads in small part: “...We have just put the last nail in your long expected box, and as mother is busy she asked me to write...It contains a pair of shoes, three pairs of socks, four handkerchiefs, also a comb and brush, tooth brushes, soap, a ham and a tongue, beside other eatibles...The tongue we send, for fear prison life has deprived you of a large part of your own...” VG. Thomas Hugh Burwell Randolph (1843-1900) was 2nd Lt. of the 2nd Virginia Infantry and a member of General Pendelton’s staff. He was WIA at 1st Manassas and taken POW at Rapphannock Station on December 5, 1862. He was not released until June 12, 1865.
