War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. large folio, written by Corp. George P. Jarvis [WIA Perryville, Ky., Oct. 8, 1862], (signed G. P. Jarvis), Co. C, 3rd Ohio Vols., "Camp Andrew Jackson near Nashville, Tenn., March 8, 1862," in part: "…we will then consider what are the corresponding differences between the resources of the enemy and those of our own…they…are pretty well played out. They could have but little at the beginning and this long war has certainly made an inroad into their financial as well as other resources…since the defeat at Bulls Run every thing has seemed to smile on us and in almost every instance where there has been fighting we have been the victors…its effects must be demoralizing…to the enemy. What confidence can soldiers have in officers who will lead them to build up the strongest fortifications and in the best positions and after getting everything completed…as soon as the enemy…advance withdraw…from this enlaces where they felt so confident of success…we on the other hand are correspondingly elated and as each new victory is obtained are gaining strength without the accumulation of more men…we are gaining confidence both in ourselves and leaders…taking all things into consideration…the war must soon cease…the only thing that seems of much difficulty…is the [?] in which we are going to dispose of the ceded states after they finally submit…we are encamped four miles south of Nashville…". Minor toning, else VG
