War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Corp. George P. Jarvis [WIA Perryville, Ky., Oct. 8, 1862], (signed George), Co. C, 3rd Ohio Vols., Bowling Green, Ky., Sept. 12, 1862, in part: "We arrived here yesterday…I cannot tell for my life what this move means unless is it that peace has been declared…this much I do know that when peace is declared we will know nothing of it till we are out of the enemy's country…if we were aware that we were going home we would take half of the country away in one knapsack and…our government would be responsible for it…I expect to serve out my three years and still have an opportunity of enlisting for three more…Dean Grosvenor and myself took dinner at Mrs. Sullivan's in town…Kate is certainly a beautiful woman [even] if she is Irish…I cannot tell what in the devil we are going to do…unless they intend to make a big fight here…we may go to Louisville and we may go eat to Frankfort or Lexington…". The original transmittal cover is included. VG
