A complete issue of the New York Daily Tribune, August 24, 1863, 8pp., disbound VG. From the front page is the blistering report with stacked headlines, “The Guerrilla Invasion Of Kansas, The Sacking And Burning Of Lawrence, Nearly 200 Citizens Killed Or Wounded, Names Of Some Of The Killed ....” Very detailed reports follows, in small part “In one case the guerrillas drove twelve men into a house, shot them, and burned the building .... Twenty five Negro recruits were shot dead ... Quantrill is now retreating toward Missouri burning and laying easte everything in his route....” Of course there are dozens of other war reports.
