War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Ephraim W. Frost [POW Winchester, Va., 6/13/63; WIA Piedmont, Va., 6/05/64 & DOD 1/15/65], Co. I, 116th Ohio Vols., "In Camp at Sleepy Creek, Morgan Co., Va., Dec. 4, 1863," in part: "…we have good news from the south and pretty good news from the Potomac but old Meade is backing out again. I hope that he would clean old Lee out this time, but he cant…this time. I wish that we could get an army thare that could clean the secesh out…not that the men don't fite as well as…anywhere else but [that] there is something else wrong…and I think it ought to be looked into…I am sorry to hear that…the governor and the president has no control [over] Ohio…I am sorry that he let politics run away with his better judgement. I suppose that if Old Val had been elected he would have…different [ideas] from what he does now…E. W. Frost…". Frost's phonetic spelling has been corrected. VG
