Muster roll for the 49th Kentucky Infantry, 2p. double folio, April 30, 1864, Camp Burnside, Kentucky, this muster for Company “E”, captained by Benjamin Howard, lists 53 men on active duty as well as 23 deserters, 6 men who have died and 7 who have reenlisted. It also includes three servants of the officers. Howard and his company did not received high marks from Lt. Colonel Philos Stratton who comments that the company was of “Poor” instruction, with “Tolerable” discipline and appearance and “Worthless” arms and accouterments. Some small repairs at fold splits, else VG.
