A good war-date Union officer's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by 2nd Lt. George W. Taylor, [WIA Fort Wagner 7/18/63 & KIA Olustee, Fl., 2/20/64], Co. B. 7th New Hampshire Vols. Morris Island, S. C., Nov. 20, 1863, in part: "…I am still on Morris…we are bombarding Sumter…and we have a number of guns pointing on Johnson and Moutrie…we stir them up once and a while. Our regiment received…267 conscripts from New Hampshire that was quite a life for the regiment. We number over 800 now…in the last elections of the different states we have had quite a Union victory…the copperheads must be about played out. 40,000 is the majority that Massachusetts has gone for Gov. Andrew pretty good…G. W. Taylor." The original transmittal cover is also included. VG
