War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 4to., written by Corp. George P. Jarvis [WIA Perryville, Ky., Oct. 8, 1862], (signed Geo. P. Jarvis), Co. C, 3rd Ohio Vols., Murfreesboro, Tenn., Apr. 2, 1863, in part: "…we are having skirmishing on the front more or less every day…we can hear heavy cannonading at almost any time…these fortifications are certainly becoming dangerous to our friend Bragg. Several are quite down and heavy siege guns planted on them. We are now doing double work, working eight hours instead of four and if Mr. Bragg will but wait a few days…he may bring the whole Southern Confederacy here…and 'get 'em licked too.' for 'Old Rosa is the boy.'…he is almost worshiped here and few of the men but would almost die to save him…I am glad to see the rapid turn which events are taking at the north. It seems that the sentiments promulgated by a certain class of politicians [Vallandigham]…met with such decided [?] in the army that they are becoming disheartened and seem almost willing to quit. Poor fellows…how I would like to see a lot of those fellows nailed to some hickory tree with a sword…didn't Sands dry them up in Noble Co.? ha! ha! [See the previous lot.] I find that these leaders showers and steel fences have a very decided effect on the minds of traitors…Boom! There goes a big gun…something is up…". VG to near fine.
