John Burns, 1793-1872, veteran of the War of 1812, became a combatant with the Union Army at the Battle of Getteysburg during the Civil War. He was wounded, and became a national celebrity. A 5 1/2 page hand written poem, c. 1863, about Burns and fighting at the battle. Stitched at the top, fine. Titled "John Burns of Gettysburg. Have you heard the story the gossips tell". Great poetic content about Burns, the battle, Rebels, etc. A well written missive.
