Quite rare document asking a registered enemy of the United States to leave New Orleans. The piece, measuring 5" x 8 1/2", is from the Office Provost Marshal, Parish of Orleans, No. 67 Carondelet Street, New Orleans, and is dated May 9, 1863. It is addressed to a Mr. J.O. Decaster, and reads in part: "In accordance with General Orders No. 35, Headquarters Department of the Gulf, you, being a Registered Enemy of the United States, are hereby notified that you must leave this Parish for the so-called Confederacy before the 15th inst....". It is signed in type by C.W. Killborn, Provost Marshal, New Orleans, La. Fine save for split at fold edge.
