Autograph Letter Signed , St. Paul, June 1, 1864, written by a local attorney, A.J. Grover (formerly of La Salle County, IL) written to a friend on conditions in his new home state: "... St. Paul is a splendid place, good roads, the purest water, splendid atmosphere -- impossible to be muddy, if it rains never so long. I am convinced that you or I or your wife or my wife would live quite a number of years longer here... there is here any amount of splendid building stone and it is cheaply quarried..." Though St. Paul had been bankrupt since 1857, Grover believes that within a few years the area will be a thriving community. A great deal more. Boldly penned, usual age toning, small tear along left edge into text without any loss, accompanied by a typed transcript. Fascinating Minnesota history!
