War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Sgt. Moses M. Ordway, 40th Mass. Vols., Bermuda Hundred, Va., Sept. 2, 1864 to his brother, in part: "…we have got the news tonight that McClellan is nominated. How does that suit you. They seem to like it pretty well here. Some in the Reg. are taking to reenlisting. They think that if McClellan is elected the war will come to an end soon…they can reenlist if they want but I don't see it…we heard tonight Atlanta was taken…Moses M. Ordway…". The original "DUE 9" transmittal cover, endorsed by Adjt. Charles E. Whitney [WIA Drewry's Bluff, Va., 5/16/64], is also included. VG
