A good war-date partly-printed, 1p 4to., War Department document, Washington, D. C., Oct. 13, 1864 appointing Edgar M. Gregory brevet brigadier general for "gallant and distinguished services" in the battle of Poplar Springs Church, Petersburg, Va., Sept. 30, 1864. Signed and made official by EDWIN M. STANTON as secretary of war and ordering him to report to Lt. Gen. U. S. Grant for further assignment. Expected folds (negligible tape repair on verso), with minor red ink stain, else VG.
