A nice group consisting of five (5) letters written by 1st Lieut. Augustus S. Tuttle 36th Mass. Vols., dated between Nov. 22 through Dec. 26, 1864 while stationed along the lines at Petersburg, Va. Content includes typical aspects of siege related news, such as troop movements, mistreatment of POWs and other content like this written from "Near Hancock Station, Va., Dec. 11, 1864," in part: "…have gone to the left to reenforce the 5th & 2nd Corps…Gen. Curtin started with (4) four regiments of our brigade. Those in the forts did not have to go so the 36th was fortunate once more but they have to work very hardened have a good deal of picket duty to do…yesterday in the cold and dismal weather two men were hung for desertion. One of them marched up to the gallows smoking a cigar…A. S. Tuttle…". Overall VG to near fine.
