A good war-date Union officer's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by 1st Lt. Willard G. Davenport, Co. H, 5th Vermont Vols., Brandon, Vt., Oct. 10, 1864 updating Asst. Surgeon J. M. McCalla on the progress of his are wound received during the battle of the Wilderness, Va., on May 5, 1864, in part: "…hoping that I would have a good photograph to send I sat two or three times & the pictures were miserable. At last I have succeeded in getting some that are tolerable…my arm is still trouble some. The wound have been very nearly healed several times then my army would be very painful for two or three days and break out anew. Three small pieces of bone have come out since my arrival here. I would like to hear…from Capt. Burrows and the rebel…W. G. Davenport…". The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Near fine.
