Pair of war-date Union soldier's letters, totaling 3pp. 8vo., written by Sgt. Major Moses M. Ordway, 40th Mass. Vols., to his brother, in part: "…[Chapin's Farm, Va., Feb. 1, 1865]…we are soon to move. The supposition is Wilmington. The 1st & 2nd Divisions of our Corps has gone. We had a big time the other day when the Jonnies ironclads came down the James. They shelled us like thunder…Moses M. Ordway…[Fort Munroe, March 9, 1865]…we are at Fort Munroe. We have just got back from Fredericksburg. We made a raid up there & captured a lot of tobacco, found no Rebs to speak of, took a few prisoners, lost no men…are waiting for orders…your Brother, Moses M. Ordway." Both original transmittal covers are also included. VG
