War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Sgt. Major Moses M. Ordway, 40th Mass. Vols., Chapin's Farm, Va., Feb. 27, 1865 to his brother, in part: "…day before yesterday we were ordered to take four days rations…and be ready to move…a part of the 8th Corps started…some surmise Petersburg & some to Wilmington. I should like to go down to Charleston…and [?] for a while…the Rebs have not many more places to lose. Gen. Ord & Gen. Lee met between the picket lines yesterday and held a long conversation…Moses M. Ordway". An original, "DUE 6" U. S. Christian Commission, transmittal cover is also included. VG
