Pair of Autograph Letters Signed by Ebenezer McCall, 80th Ohio Volunteers, includes: September 5, 1864, Resaca, Georgia, with good content, in part: “...It has been fully a week since we have had any mail from the North owing I suppose to the depridations of Wheeler on the Chattanooga and Nashville Rail Road....During his raid along here he captured sixty five men out of our Brigade whom he paroled...The Rebel Army of the Tennessee is now so discomfited that I dont think they will trouble us much more. Deserters are said to be coming in by companies and Regiments. All the Prisoners and Deserters with whom I have yet converesed seem to think the Confederacy is ‘gone up.’ They may hold out until the coming Election and possibly longer, but I think if Mr. Lincoln is re-elected the war will be much shorter duration than if McClellan should be made President!...Most of the people around here are ‘Poor Whites’ and a lower class of persons I dont think I ever saw. The Negroes are, if there is any difference at all, the more preferable....” Fine...plus; September 22, 1864, Resaca, with cover franked by their Colonel. It reads in part: “...I saw a Northern woman today on the cars. I guess she must have been some Officer’s wife on her way to visit her husband, or else one of the Sanitary Commission Ladies....I told Libb of the Female Major who passed here a few days ago...If the Army starts on another campaign you will be apprised of it by the papers. Gen. Sherman is making preparations for something...” Fine.
