A good war-date Union officer's letter, 1p. 8vo., written, on Christian Commission stationery, by Captain Augustus Alonzo Hoit, Co. A, 34th USCT or 2nd South Carolina, (former captain 8th Maine Vols), "Sherman's Army, 34th Regt., Coast Div., Army Corp, Feb. 7, 1865," in part: "…we are encamped near the Cumbahee river at a place called Gardner's Corner. Two Regts of our division (the Coast Division) have crossed the Cumbahee Ferry and Gen. Sherman's army has crossed several miles above us. We have been ordered to Fla., but I don't know when we shall go…yours in love, Alonzo." VG
