J J Crittenden penned on the mount's lowed margin, no backmark. This image was surely taken very late in life while Crittenden was serving in either the U.S. Senate or in the U.S. House of Representatives. A supporter of Henry Clay and a proponent of sectional compromise, the great Crittenden died during the height of the Civil War while his nation and, indeed, his home state were hotly divided. Very good.
