A complete and authentic issue of Harper’s Weekly, November 16, 1861, disbound, VG. From the covera nearly full page engraving, “The Last Meeting Between General Scott and the Cabinet” which shows Scott, Lincoln, Smith, Chase, Blair, Cameron, Seward, Welles, and Bates. The report “The Retirement of General Scott” begins on the cover page and concludes on an interior page. Scott personally commanded Abraham Lincoln's bodyguard at the inauguration. Now seventy-five years old, Scott requested retirement, and in November 1861, he was retired. Five years later, he died at West Point and was buried in the national cemetery there.
