Newspaper, complete and authentic issue of the Vanity Fair, August 24, 1861, 12pp., 8-1/2” x 11,” disbound VG. Vanity Fair is noted for its deep slices of satire. They took on anything that was political, including Abraham Lincoln. This issue has a broadside sheet [part of the publication, printed on one side only], showing CSA President Jefferson Davis walking a tihghtrope on a cannonball, “In a Position to be Recognised. The Celebrated Sepoy Juggler and Acrobat, Jeff Davis In His Dangerous Globe Feat.” And on the cover, “‘The Republican Queen’ Visits Long Branch,” is an illustration of Mary Todd Lincoln being well received.
