Broadside, “THE PLATFORMS,” 9” x 11-1/2,” type set in two columns, minor roughness at left margin, VG. The left margin has column headline BALTIMORE and reports in small part “The National Convention which assembled at Baltimore on the 7th of last June, and there nominated ABRAHAM LINCOLN for re-election as President, with ANDREW JOHNSON as Vice President, adopted and presented to the American People the following PLATFORM ...” It continues with 11 resolves, one of which states in part, “That, as slavery was the cause and now constitutes the strength of this rebellion, and as it must be always and everywhere hostile to the principles of republican government ... we are in favor of such an amendment to the Constitution ... shall terminate and forever prohibit the existence of Slavery ...” Then, on the right column headed CHICAGO, reports “The Democratic National Convention which gathered at Chicago on the 29th of August and presented the names of GEORGE McCLELLAN for President, and GEORGE PENDLETON for Vice president, agreed on and adopted the folloing PLATFORM ...” The platform prints 6 resolves in scathing language to the administration, such as “..after four years of failure to restore the Union by the experiment of war, during which under the pretense of a military necessity or war power higher than the Consititution ..... full force, the suppression of freedom of speech and of press ...” the piece closes with a 5 point recap “POINTS OF DIFFERENCE.” Clearly issued in late 1864 supporting the Lincoln presidency.
