October 30, 1864, A Staunch Union Supporter Complains to Her Cousin about Rebels and Copperheads, Agency City, Very Fine. Autograph Letter Signed by "Elizabeth Carman" on fine-laid, lined paper, 7.8" x 5" 4-page integral sheet. Writing to W.O. Carman, Elizabeth speaks of her cousin Joseph who served in the 7th Regiment, fought in the battle of Altoona: "...he walked over the battle field and it was covered with dead and wounded rebels. We lost about 700 and the rebels lost about 1500 killed wounded and prisoners..." Carman also speaks about going out to an event: "Well I must quit writing and fix up to go to a copperhead singing school and see the copperhead beaus for we have no others here now... well enough of this nonsense I send my best respects...." Some minor edge splits, but very interesting and great historic battlefield content from this Northern, Union supporter.
