This impressive large historic Liverpool Pitcher measures 11” tall and 6.5” at base. The first transfer is Hand-colored in red, blue, yellow and aqua. It shows a three-masted ship with a 16 star American flag identified as “SHIP PRESIDENT”. The second side shows a scene with a young man watching some sheep and a man and woman conversing. The background shows a river with a castle or fort sitting on a hill overlooking the river. Under the spout there are two transfers, “JACOB BARKER” surrounded by wheat and grapes and a Seal of the United States. Jacob Barker was a large period ship owner and during the War of 1812 was the second largest American shipping fleet owner. He had the contract to supply oil to all American light houses, which was supplied by his own fleet of Whaling Ships. He also arranged the importation of the First Steam Engine used by Robert Fulton for his steam boat! Overall, this Large Size Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher is gorgeous. Rare and unusual in its larger sixe, it is extremely clean and vivid in its transfer colors and details with a lovely uniform glossy appearance that makes it perfect for display.
